  • Chantal Walsh, Director

    Chantal Walsh has 30 years of private-sector experience in Alaska's petroleum industry on matters including strategic planning, commercial analysis, litigation, well work operations, production optimization, completions, and drilling design and coordination. She has worked on oil field projects on the North Slope and Cook Inlet.

    Before her appointment to Director of Oil and Gas, Walsh was a consulting engineer at Petrotechnical Resources of Alaska, a consulting firm she cofounded in 1997. As a PRA principal consultant, she has worked on major oil and gas projects throughout Alaska. Her oil and gas career began in 1985 at Standard Alaska Production Company working on Prudhoe Bay projects. She continued to work on Prudhoe Bay projects with BP and then ARCO Alaska, where she held a variety of positions in commercial analysis, reservoir management, litigation, and field operations.

    Walsh has a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Alaska. She is currently vice chair of the University of Alaska Fairbanks College of Engineering and Mines' Advisory and Development Council.

    Jim Beckham, Deputy Director

    Jim Beckham's education, work experience, and skills make him an excellent Deputy to the Division of Oil and Gas. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Science from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and over 30 years of professional leadership, management, and operational experience in both the public and private sectors. Beckham is also member of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Petroleum Engineering Department's Industry Advisory Board.

    Beckham has a knowledge of the technical aspects of Alaska oil and gas issues in the downstream products and transportation sectors, as well as extensive commercial negotiation experience. Additionally, he has over ten years of advanced level professional experience in environmental regulation compliance, pollution control and, environmental damage recovery.
